Dear New Customer:
Welcome to the Union Hill Area. The water service to your home is
provided by Union Hill Water Association (UHWA). UHWA is a private, non-profit corporation, governed by a Board of
Trustees. By purchasing a property served by UHWA, you are automatically a
member of the Association.
The Board of
Trustees has established our rate schedule to encourage water
conservation and to limit the amount of water used for landscape
irrigation. We ask that you practice water conservation in your use
of water both indoors and outdoors.
The water provided by UHWA is of very high quality.
The water is tested on a continuing basis to assure that it is safe and
that it meets all State standards for drinking water. There is no
added chlorine or fluoride in the water. Your water meter will be read every month.
This is a very brief introduction to Union Hill Water
Association. We have additional information on water conservation,
which we will send to you upon request. Our officer hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Tues. Wed. and
Thurs. Please call 425-497-1812 during these hours for additional
information, or should you have other questions.
Water Source: Our primary water source
is groundwater wells.
Fluoride: There is little or no
fluoride in our water. Please consult with your dentist in regard to
fluoride protection for your children.
Manganese: Our water has a slightly
elevated level of manganese. Manganese may cause a gray stain on plumbing fixtures and
appliances. The use of oxalic acid (available at drug stores) or
Tang fruit drink will remove the stains, including from dishwashers (use the
oxalic acid or Tang in soap dispenser without dishes and run through a
wash cycle).
Hydrogen Sulfide (Rotten Egg Smell):
Though not present at the well or in the distribution system, hydrogen
sulfide can be smelled (rotten egg odor) at some cold water taps.
Sulfide is naturally occurring in ground water in most of this region and
again is not harmful to your health. Run the cold-water tap for
approximately 20 seconds to eliminate the odor prior to drawing a glass of
water. If odor persists, we have found that certain plastic hoses
attached to the sink fixture can cause the problem. The problem can
be eliminated entirely by replacing the hoses.
Copper/Lead: UHWA water has been
tested for copper and lead levels in selected homes and has been found to
be in compliance with EPA standards.
Bacteriological: UHWA tests its water on a
continuing basis to check for coliform bacteria in the water system.
UHWA is in compliance with state standards for drinking water quality.
Emergencies: Union Hill provides
emergency service response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for problems
associated with your water service and quality. Call 425-497-1812.
New Accounts: UHWA charges a $25.00 account set up fee. Payment Options: UHWA bills monthly. Bills are due on the 5th of the following month and may be paid one of the following ways; pay in person, by mail, UHWA's automatic payment plan, online at www.uhwa.org, or through your financial institution's bill payer. Delinquent Accounts and Billing Policy:
Water bills are due and payable on the 5th of every month. There is a $25.00
service fee for checks returned for any reason by the bank. We will only
accept cash or money order for payment on a returned check. If
you are unable to pay your bill in a timely manner, please contact our
office during normal business hours and we will work with you to set up a

Bylaws, your meter will be shut off for nonpayment. Adequate notice
will be given which will allow for payment of a past due account. A
$50.00 fee will be charged if water is disconnected for nonpayment. Meters will NOT BE turned on during off hours
or on weekends.
Returned Payment Fee: There is a $25.00 service fee for returned payments, for any reason, by the bank. We will only accept cash or money orders for payment on returned checks. Board of Trustees Meetings: The Board
meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the office of UHWA. The
meetings are open to the general membership.
Annual Meeting: An Annual Meeting of
the Membership is held on the 2nd Wednesday of February every year. Elections for the Trustee positions whose term is expired are held at these meetings. All members are encouraged to attend. A meeting notice
